54722 Arx Libertatis games 37024 Re: Mandriva packages
Done.

By the way, we have just released Arx Libertatis 1.0.2. It's only bug fixes and very minor features so you should just be able to bump the version in the .spec file ;-)

While we're on the topic of packaging: I've noticed that you packaged AL as one big package with with both arx and the (optional) arxcrashreporter binary. This means that users will need Qt to install arx even though it's not needed for the actually game. For most distros (.deb based, Gentoo, Arch, FreeBSD) there is a way to declare such optional dependencies such that the crash reporter (and Qt) is pulled in by default when installing arx-libertatis, but the user can opt to only install the core game. Yet I haven't found a good way to do the same for RPMs. Did I miss the solution or is this not a common problem? Maybe I'm just over-engineering this.

Anyway, thanks for packaging AL.
2012-06-16 00:38:37 54721
54717 Yamagi Quake II games 34651 Re: Yamagi Quake II It would be really nice to have an OS X port. But neither me nor cades own a Mac and without real hardware it's next to impossible to port a 3D game to a new platform. While the basic steps can be done in a VM at some point the code must be tested on real hardware. Another problem is, that SDL 1.2 and OS X are not the best friends. While it might work (Yamagi Quake II doesn't use many SDL features) there may be some serious problems... I'll add an OS X port to our new CONTRUBITIONS file, so maybe someone will step up :)
I'm currently in the progress of porting Yamagi Quake II back to Windows. After about 12 hours off work the game is up and running, but some problems are left und cleanup is necessary. Since OS X is just another unixoid platform and the main difference to FreeBSD, Linux and so on is the executable format and library model (MACH-O instead of ELF), a skilled coder shoul be able to come up withe a port in a few hours. 2012-06-04 16:39:38 54712
54719 Arx Libertatis games 35706 Re: Arx Libertatis Hehe, nice thanks. Guess next time I'm a bit more direct when i try to say "Game work flawless...if you want to find something that doesn't work you really have to search for it" ;).

Just allow me one little suggestion...I work on a dual-screen setup here, so the first time the game starts up it covers both screens what makes the initial setup of the options a bit...interesting. Until I found the option to run the game in windowed mode it involved a bit of guessing (mostly due the fact that my second screen runs in a lower resolution so I don't have the full height displayed on that screen). So...it might be benificial to set the default of the game to windowed mode (Though I'm aware that dual screen setups aren't that frequent..and most people probably will want to play in fullscreen mode. As I said...just a suggestion from my point of view) 2012-06-08 12:31:41 54711
54721 Arx Libertatis games 36616 Re: Mandriva packages BTW, can you please also add info about packages in ROSA (http://www.rosalab.com/)? Instructions are the same as for Mandriva (except for repository - Contrib instead of Non-Free). 2012-06-10 02:50:51 54710
54720 Arx Libertatis games 36616 Re: Mandriva packages I guess this should be enough: 1. Check if non-free repository is enabled. 2. Select arx-libertatis package in package manager and install it. 3. Or you can install it from terminal with "urpmi arx-libertatis" command (you need to be root). 2012-06-08 20:47:21 54710
54714 11233 news 10204 Re: Ahh, that sucks Personally I would have liked them to release the source to Limbo given the excuse. 2012-06-03 10:45:36 54708
54716 11233 news 10204 Re: Ahh, that sucks I would find it likely that they would drop Linux...as I suspect Linux paying so much for the games drags OSX and Windows users up. Although with the bundles pulling in so much money...and growing with each bundle Linux users add significant revenue. 2012-06-03 10:49:09 54706
