Netmaze M.Hipp ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/games/multiplayer/netmaze0.81.README Netmaze README 0.81 A 3d first person multiplayer maze game. Not quite Quake, but... A fun 3-d, first person multiplayer maze game. Run around and shoot the enemy smiley-face balls! action free img on on off off on on 1998-09-01 bobz 1998-11-02 17:07:21 14 ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/games/multiplayer/netmaze0.81.tar.gz 2001-01-07 22:11:33 off
Xspacewars Robert Naugle ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/games/multiplayer/xspacewars_v0.0.1.README README for version 0.0.1 0.0.2 Early version of a multiplayer space combat game. A multiplayer spaceship combat simulation. It's very alpha and was quite buggy on my system (the readouts would disappear from time to time). action free img on on off off on on 1998-09-01 bobz 1998-11-02 23:29:06 14 ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/games/multiplayer/xspacewars_v0.0.2.tar.Z 2001-01-07 22:11:33 off
Firepower 0.84 A multiplayer tank game designed for play over a dialup internet connection A multiplayer tank game which is playable over the Internet by up to 32 players. It reminds me of Bolo for the Mac, but is not related to it. The game is like capture the flag, but you can harvest trees, build walls and bridges, and lay mines to hinder the opposing team. It's designed to be perfectly playable over a 14.4k SLIP/PPP connection to the Internet. action free img off on off off on on 1998-09-01 bobz 1998-11-02 16:05:42 14 ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/games/multiplayer/xfirepower-0.84.tar.gz 2001-10-12 01:20:03 off
XBattle Greg Lesher www ftp://www.tiac.net/users/lesher/xbattle/xbattle-5.4.1.tar.gz Alternate Download Site 5.4.1 A complex, multiplayer, realtime wargame for X. An interesting multiplayer strategy wargame played in realtime on multiple X displays. Command an army in realtime, deploying forces strategically to overpower the enemy's troops. Loads of game-play options, such as bases, cities, digging, paratroops, and variable terrain can be settable from the command-line, so that there is virtually an infinite number of different scenarios and rule sets. strategy free img on on off off on on 1998-09-01 bobz 1998-11-02 18:56:09 14 ftp://cns-ftp.bu.edu/pub/xbattle/xbattle-5.4.1.tar.gz 2001-01-07 22:11:33 off
Hearts A networked multiplayer version of the Hearts card game. The hearts card game. The client/server design allows multiple players to connect across a network, or you can play against the three computer opponents. It can be compiled with either Motif or Athena widgets. mia free img off on off off on on 1998-09-01 bobz 1998-11-02 16:23:50 14 ftp://ftp.x.org/R5contrib/xhearts.tar.Z 2001-01-07 22:13:10 off
XEvil Steve Hardt www 2.02 A 3rd person, side-view, fast-action, kill-them-before-they-kill-you game. XEvil is a weird platform game. Your character is incarnated as a hero, a chopper-boy, or a ninja. Collect the weapons which drop from the sky and use them to slaughter creatures from Aliens, lemmings, frogs, and characters which look an awful lot like you. The weapon variety is interesting: it includes a frog gun (turn your target into a frog), flamethrowers, shurikens, and the soul-swapper. The game can be set to play levels, indiscriminate slaughter mode, a duel between two people at the same keyboard, or special scenarios (including one in which you must save the lemmings!). arcade free img on on off off on on 1998-09-01 bobz 1998-11-03 19:10:23 14 www 2002-11-30 09:52:49 off
XPilot Bjørn Stabell, Bert Gijsbers, Ken Ronny Schouten www news:rec.games.computer.xpilot Xpilot Usenet newsgroup ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/games/multiplayer/xpilot-4.2.0.tar.gz Alternate download URL 4.5.4 A networked multi-player 2D space game. This is an excellent multiplayer action game. It's sort of like a wireframe Maelstrom, only you can play against many other people either on your own or as a team. There's a large variety of goodies like mines, lasers, multiple shots, and cloaking devices. Requires a fast net connection and preferably an accelerated video card. action free img on on off off on on 1998-09-01 bobz 1998-11-02 23:14:59 14 ftp://ftp.xpilot.org/pub/ 2002-10-29 12:44:54 on
XAtaxx A board game whose object is to have the most pieces of your color on the board This is an X version of the arcade game Ataxx with simple graphics. The object is to have the most pieces of your color on the board by the end of the game. On your turn, you can either clone a glob into an adjacent empty square, or make a glob jump to a new space. Adjacent enemy globs get converted to your color after you make your move. board free img off on off off on on 1998-09-01 bobz 1998-11-02 18:51:18 14 www 2001-01-07 22:13:10 off
Xtet42 ftp://ftp.pvv.ntnu.no/pub/pvv/games/xtet42-2.21.src.tar.gz Source download 2.21 Another tetris clone with multiplayer and joystick support In one-player mode, this looks like just another tetris clone. But the two-player mode (networked via a remote X11 display) has a neat feature: removing a row from your board makes your opponent's board get one smaller! The two boards are both displayed in your window, your opponent's board upside-down in the bottom half. It's pretty neat; it's like a deathmatch tetris. mia free img on on off off on on 1998-09-01 bobz 1998-11-11 00:36:08 14 ftp://ftp.pvv.ntnu.no/pub/pvv/games/xtet42-2.21.tar.gz 2001-03-27 07:28:51 off
Quake id Software www ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/source/q1source.zip Download the GPL'ed source to Quake ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/idgames/idstuff/source/q1source.zip Alternate download site for Quake source id Software's venerable first true 3d game. This is the Linux version of Quake. You'll need to grab the PAK file from the DOS distribution in order to play it. Don't even think of playing it on anything but a Pentium or a really fast 486 (i.e., something faster than mine). There's also a port to SVGAlib which doesn't require X. If you have a 3Dfx accelerator card, check out GL Quake. As for the looks, well, it looks like Quake. If you haven't seen it yet, do so now. The game itself is your basic kill-them-before-they-kill-you scenario. But you'll probably have a lot of fun anyway. action shareware img on on on on on on 1998-09-01 3 1998-11-02 17:27:16 14 ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/unsup www The Linux Quake HOWTO 2002-11-23 19:48:22 on
