The game is like capture the flag, but you can harvest trees, build walls and bridges, and lay mines to hinder the opposing team. It's designed to be perfectly playable over a 14.4k SLIP/PPP connection to the Internet. |

XEvil is a weird platform game. Your character is incarnated as a hero, a chopper-boy, or a ninja. Collect the weapons which drop from the sky and use them to slaughter creatures from Aliens, lemmings, frogs, and characters which look an awful lot like you. The weapon variety is interesting: it includes a frog gun (turn your target into a frog), flamethrowers, shurikens, and the soul-swapper. The game can be set to play levels, indiscriminate slaughter mode, a duel between two people at the same keyboard, or special scenarios (including one in which you must save the lemmings!). |

This is an excellent multiplayer action game. It's sort of like a wireframe Maelstrom, only you can play against many other people either on your own or as a team. There's a large variety of goodies like mines, lasers, multiple shots, and cloaking devices. Requires a fast net connection and preferably an accelerated video card. |

This is an X version of the arcade game Ataxx with simple graphics. The object is to have the most pieces of your color on the board by the end of the game. On your turn, you can either clone a glob into an adjacent empty square, or make a glob jump to a new space. Adjacent enemy globs get converted to your color after you make your move. |

Another tetris clone with multiplayer and joystick support |
In one-player mode, this looks like just another tetris clone. But the two-player mode (networked via a remote X11 display) has a neat feature: removing a row from your board makes your opponent's board get one smaller! The two boards are both displayed in your window, your opponent's board upside-down in the bottom half. It's pretty neat; it's like a deathmatch tetris. |

id Software's venerable first true 3d game. |
This is the Linux version of Quake. You'll need to grab the PAK file from the DOS distribution in order to play it. Don't even think of playing it on anything but a Pentium or a really fast 486 (i.e., something faster than mine). There's also a port to SVGAlib which doesn't require X. If you have a 3Dfx accelerator card, check out GL Quake. As for the looks, well, it looks like Quake. If you haven't seen it yet, do so now. The game itself is your basic kill-them-before-they-kill-you scenario. But you'll probably have a lot of fun anyway. |
