48 2 1999-01-15 11:32:01 Raven press release:

Monday, January 11th, 1999: Raven Software and Activision have announced the source code release for Raven's blockbuster classics Heretic and Hexen.
"As a result of the enormous popularity of the DOOM source code, we are extremely excited to see what the gaming public can do with the Heretic and Hexen code," says Brian Raffel, vice president of Raven Studios. "It is our hope that people will create such modifications as GL Heretic and GL Hexen and support higher resolutions, greater multiplayer capabilities, mods, and ports to new operating systems like BeOS and Linux. The possibilities are as endless as the community's imagination."
The file is approximately 1 meg in size and comes complete with installer, legal information and readme files. Download it today and let your imaginations run wild!
Note that bit about file coming "complete with installer". It means you can't get at the code without extracting it on a Windows system first. When will they learn?
Update: There's now a zip package available in addition the Windows installer. Guess they've learned. :-) Thanks to R. Pickett for this update.
The Heretic/Hexen source is available here Raven Software releases Heretic/Hexen source default

It may be a little while before the automated stuff like the newsboxes and the news exports are working again.
But we're back! Gee, we're back default
