I don't play Ultima Online, so I'm not too clear about what a "non-patching binary" is, but I suspect it means the client will break next time there's a UO update. The <a href="ftp://leper.owo.com/pub/uo/FAQ">FAQ</a> for this release may answer some questions about this. New Ultima Online client released updated

It is still under development and only a free playable demo is available thus far. It looks pretty promising. Too bad it's shareware and not GPL software. This is a network-only game. The developers say it's unclear if they'll add computer AI to the game sometime in the future. The GN website has some nice looking "3d" isometric view screenshots from an upcoming version of the game. Great Nations 1.3.1 new
44 2 1998-12-29 15:57:19 My esteemed host may take the server down for maintenance briefly tomorrow. He can't say exactly when this might occur, so if you can't get to the Tome, this will be the likely cause. The expected downtime is only about an hour, so most people probably won't even notice. The Game Tome may be unavailable Wednesday default

46 2 1999-01-03 19:04:23 Since I had a bit free time this weekend and I needed an excuse not to do something useful (like implement a decent search interface for the Game Tome), I added those little dynamic news boxes you see on the right side of the page. Via these nifty constructs, you can keep tabs on all the latest Linux games news on the net without inflaming your carpal tunnels. Even niftier is the fact that you can control which boxes are displayed, and in what order. This functionality is available through the [Edit User Profile] link that you'll see at the top of the page if you're logged in. Email me if there's a Linux game related site that you'd like to be represented in the news boxes. Changes round these here parts default

48 2 1999-01-15 11:32:01 Raven press release: <p> <blockquote> Monday, January 11th, 1999: Raven Software and Activision have announced the source code release for Raven's blockbuster classics Heretic and Hexen. <p> "As a result of the enormous popularity of the DOOM source code, we are extremely excited to see what the gaming public can do with the Heretic and Hexen code," says Brian Raffel, vice president of Raven Studios. "It is our hope that people will create such modifications as GL Heretic and GL Hexen and support higher resolutions, greater multiplayer capabilities, mods, and ports to new operating systems like BeOS and Linux. The possibilities are as endless as the community's imagination." <p> The file is approximately 1 meg in size and comes complete with installer, legal information and readme files. Download it today and let your imaginations run wild! </blockquote> Note that bit about file coming "complete with installer". It means you can't get at the code without extracting it on a Windows system first. When will they learn? <p> <b>Update:</b> There's now a zip package available in addition the Windows installer. Guess they've learned. :-) Thanks to R. Pickett for this update. <p> The Heretic/Hexen source is available <a href="http://www2.ravensoft.com/source/">here</a> Raven Software releases Heretic/Hexen source default
